Our next performance with Awakening is on 31 May, at Artus Studio. This is the last performance before the association’s debut in Avignon, as the Hungarian guest of the Avignon Festival’s off-programme.
Awakening – circus-theatre show
non-verbal play for one rope, two characters, and several fairies
English friendly
Duration: 75mins
Age: 6+
„For many years I mistook myself for someone, who doesn’t exist; and even beyond years, I mistook the impalpable for the impossible. Countless fairies, neither one nor more: that is what I am, the rest is just appearance.”
excerpt from the Hungarian poem “Örvény” (Vortex) by Sàndor Weöres
Awakening brings you to a magic world, where you can tell a story without words. This awakening is not leading you to the morning wake-up calls, but to a dream that colors up the greyish world. Here, magic doesn’t require anything else, but a pillow, and if it’s too dark, you light up the sky with the stars that you draw with your own fingers.
The performance was presented in 2018 on the stage of the Divadlo Thália Theatre in Košice, within the framework of the Visegrad Fund residency program, and in 2019 in Budapest at Artus Studio. The premieres were followed by numerous international and domestic successes.
The production was included in the Istanbul Fringe Festival in Turkey (2019) with the support of the Istanbul Hungarian Institute (2019), and was also selected for the programs of the Bergen Fringe Festival in Norway (2019), the Infinite Dance Festival in Oradea (2020) and the Valley of Arts Festival in 2021. With the support of the Hungarian Institute in London, Voila! At the Europe Festival in London, Awakening represented Hungary, where it received an OffFest award nomination. In the Summer of 2024, the production will be presented at the Festival d’Avignon in France.
